Global Troubles
Written by Rob Keeler

Is it just me or is the world suffering from seemingly biblical scale flooding and other natural disasters?  China is taking another pasting after the devastating earthquake back in May, this time it's from massive flooding.  Large swathes of America are under water too, and there's the weekly reports of tornado's causing the usual death and destruction in trailor parks across the mid-west.  Earthquakes in Greece, Japan and Iceland.  Cyclone Nargis in Burma.  What next?  Plagues of locusts?

Add to the mix the global food crisis, rising oil prices and drought and famine in Ethiopia and the other usual places, and what you have is a rather bleak vision of the state of the planet right now.  All this without getting into the man-made chaos in Zimbabwe, Sudan, Iran, Iraq, Afganistan, Pakistan, Somalia and Columbia among others.  Bleak isn't it.

It's times like these that I thank my lucky stars I'm here on Koh Tao, where the sun is shining, it's hot as hell (today is anyway), the skies are blue, the sea is warm and inviting, chicks wander round in the latest style bikini's and the beer is cold!  But, we're not immune to the world's problems.  Petrol is expensive here too, the cost of food is rising all the time (I haven't eaten cheese in months) and the weather can be.....schizophrenic!  However all this pales in comparison to the fact that we don't get English commentary over Euro 2008!!  How I would have loved to enjoy the demise of France last night with Motty's expert analysis and insights or Martin Tyler and Andy Gray's slightly patronising banter and incomprehensible Scottish witt.  It would have made a sweet sweet moment all the more enjoyable.  Oh well.....

ACE Marine Images is shiny and new, just like this website. We have so much going on it is simply unbelieveable.

Ayesha is teaching an ACE SSI Advanced Underwater Film Maker course for the first time with the new syllabus and Cat is loving it. Heather is making films again and undoubtably putting smiles back on lots of faces. Sonia is diving and running the show, she is the new daily manager and is doing a great job with big shoes to fill. Becks is out filming with Seatran, may chaos rule! Tyler and Dan are absolutely on the ball with Tyler taking over as the new graphoc designer and artist.

The new improved ACE Marine Images underwater imaging academy is off the ground and later this year we can expect seminars from the likes of Evan Kovacs and Richie Kohler on subjects like filming on rebreathers and deep tech photography as well as working with magasines and getting published.
